Kaiyue Ma, PhD
I was trained in Dr. Monkol Lek’s lab in the Genetics Department at Yale University for my PhD. There, I focused on improving diagnostics and developing treatments for rare genetic diseases, especially the muscular dystrophies caused by mutations in the components of the Dystrophin Glycoprotein Complex (DGC). Afterwards, I pivoted for my post-doc training, working on evolutionary medicine research using cutting-edge long-read sequencing and pan-genome methods in Prof. Yafei Mao’s lab at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Currently, I am enthusiastic about searching for biomedical opportunities from biodiversity. I am a grandson of peasants and a son of workers. I have passions for scientific advancement and societal improvement. I love my work. I am a quick learner. I want to help people. The only weapon I wield is called humor. I’m a cartophile, a cinephile, an ornithophile, a thanatophobe, and a railfan. My fundamental drive is to search for solutions to ensure the long-term survival of civilizations.
